Character's Personality:

Questions:

  1. Tell us about who your character is and what someone's first impression would be upon meeting them. How would your character act once someone got to know them?
The average person's first impression upon meeting Pinkie Pie would probably be, "Holy crap, is that a bright pink talking pony??"

But in all seriousness, the first impression that Pinkie Pie gives is that of a loud (possibly TOO loud), cheerful, bouncing ball of energy in bright pink pony form. She is excited to meet anyone and everyone, whether it's for the first time or the thousandth time. She remembers every birthday she's ever learned about, she knows everything that makes her friends smile, and she is determined to turn every new stranger into a friend. She embodies the Element of Laughter — literally, in the case of the Elements of Harmony. Her one true purpose in life is to throw parties and spread cheer and joy.

For the most part, Pinkie acts the same around her closest friends as she does around perfect strangers. However, it is only her truest friends who get to see her be a little more insecure or vulnerable. She sometimes worries that time apart will lead her friends to forget about her, for example sitting eagerly at the mailbox waiting for a letter from Rainbow Dash when she was away at Wonderbolts Academy. When her friends appear to be planning things behind her back, Pinkie Pie briefly loses her cheerful attitude and suffers a minor mental breakdown, only to be brought back to her usual self when she discovers that the thing they were planning behind her back was a surprise party for Pinkie's birthday. Pinkie is so focused on celebrating others, that she forgot her own birthday was happening.

  2. What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
Pinkie is very unique— so much so that it's hard to pinpoint one quality that sets her apart. Perhaps more so than any other pony, she has the ability to seemingly disobey the laws of physics for a joke or a gag. She will pop into frame from seemingly impossible angles, including popping her head out from inside a mailbox that could not possibly be large enough to fit her body. She also can pull a scroll out from the bottom of a towering pile of scrolls, without all the scrolls above it in the pile falling over.

Additionally, one special trait Pinkie possesses is her Pinkie Sense: a seemingly prophetic ability to predict near-future events by interpreting various twitches and involuntary motions in her body.

Some examples of Pinkie's Pinkie Sense include:
    • Twitchy tail = something is going to fall from above.
    • Flopping ears = someone is going to get dirty.
    • Itchy back = something lucky will happen to Pinkie.
    • Pinchy knee = something scary will happen.

Sometimes the signs happen in quick succession, and different combinations can have different meanings depending on the order in which they happen:
    • Ear flop → knee twitch → eye flutter = there is about to be a beautiful rainbow in the sky.
    • Ear flop → eye flutter → knee twitch = look out for opening doors.

These sensations and the ensuing predictions defy all reasonable logic, and yet they inevitably are proven to be true often enough that the other residents of Ponyville know to pay them heed.

  3. What does your character think their flaws are? What do they think their strengths are? What are their actual flaws and strengths?
Pinkie is pretty insightful as to her own flaws and strengths. She knows that her strengths lie in making people happy, and that her flaw is that she sometimes can be clumsy, quick to judge, and come on a little too strong in her attempts to befriend complete strangers. Sometimes, she can be overconfident in her ability to handle a task— such as babysitting the Cakes' month-old twins— only to quickly become overwhelmed when the task turns out harder than expected. However, when this happens, Pinkie learns her lesson to know her limits and is less likely to repeat such a mistake again.

Another flaw of Pinkie's is her tendency to let her excitement get the better of her. If she learns really thrilling news but it's meant to be kept a secret, she can have a hard time stopping herself from spilling the beans. The last thing she wants is to ruin a surprise, but she also loves spreading happiness and joy, so the temptation to tell everyone the secret can drive Pinkie a little bonkers.

  4. What is a common misconception other characters have about your character?
The most common misconception others have about Pinkie Pie is that she is unfailingly happy and secure in her happiness, and that she is unaffected by things that might make any other pony sad or upset. In other words, that Pinkie Pie is something of a one trick pony when it comes to being in a good mood.

While it is often the case that Pinkie's relentless joy and optimism make her appear to be filled with an unending supply of laughter and humor even in dark times, she is not completely impervious to negative emotions. She can be sad, scared, insecure, and even angry. If she feels that her friends have abandoned her, or that something she did upset someone in some way, even the brightest, happiest pony like Pinkie Pie can get down in the dumps.

Whatever emotion Pinkie Pie is experiencing, she experiences it to the utmost degree. However one of Pinkie's greatest skills is her resilience, or the ability to bounce back from negative emotions and to smile again after hard times. It is this resilience that can sometimes lead others to assume that Pinkie will always be the happy-go-lucky party planning pony that she usually is.
